Greystone Hall Tour and Box Lunch

Join us for a tour of this magnificent mansion that was designed by architect Charles Barton Keen and built in 1907 for P.M. Sharples, West Chester’s greatest industrialist and most generous benefactor. Greystone Hall, owned by the Jerrehian family for more than sixty years, showcases its collections of oriental rugs and antique furnishings. The mansion remains a private family residence and is not open to the general public for tours. Downstairs only will be shown. The tour will conclude with a box lunch, included in the price.

An Evening with Tosca -- Lecture and Wilmington Opera

Join Chester County's finest, musician and Arts Council leader Bob Palladino, for a fabulous night at the opera! First, learn the libretto and become familiar with parts of this Puccini classic during an informative pre-show lecture on May 3rd. Then on May 8th, travel with Bob by Coach bus to the Wilmington Opera House to see Tosca. Course fee includes bus, theater ticket and lecture. Note: All registrations MUST BE IN by March 8th.

Assassins on the Run: A Field Trip

Roger Arthur, instructor

Follow the events and people involved in Lincoln's assassination with noted Civil War Historian and lecturer, Roger Arthur. This popular and intriguing tour begins at the Ford's Theater in Washington, D.C., at its newly renovated museum, the Peterson House (where Lincoln died). Then we will follow the escape route of the assassins to the Surrett Tavern in Clinton, MD followed by a visit to the house of Dr. Mudd, one of the co-conspirators. The trip will end on the Potomac River for dinner near Booth's crossing point. We'll discuss Booth's escape and capture, the trial of the other conspirators and their hangings. The fee includes the bus, admission to the theater, the Surratt Tavern, the Mudd House and your knowledgeable and entertaining guide.

A Guided Tour of Mansions in Movies

Velda Jerrehian Moog, facilitator

Using Greystone Hall as an example and illustrated with production stills of movie sets of the period, this tour will examine how mansions and mansion life have been presented and portrayed in such classic Hollywood films of the 30's to 60's as "Rebecca," "The Philadelphia Story," "Sunset Boulevard," "The Heiress," and other memorable mansion movies. Light refreshments will be served.

Did you know that many of your favorite Food Network TV personalities and other celebrity chefs -- including Cat Cora, Rocco DiSpirito, Todd English, Thomas Keller -- are all distinguished CIA alumni? It's the place to be for the latest trends and recipes, emerging news, and newsmakers in the world of food. Enjoy lunch at American Bounty, a five star restaurant, a student-conducted tour of the CIA, snacks on the bus and transportation aboard a luxury passenger bus. Note: There will be pick ups in West Chester, Radnor and Plymouth Meeting.

Historic Tour of Martin's Tavern and Lunch at Four Dogs Tavern

Our adventure will begin with lunch at Four Dogs Tavern, an 1800's inn that served as a refuge for travelers and locals as well as a militia meeting place in Marshallton. Then a short walk will take us to Martin's Tavern where tour guides will tell the story of the tavern and how it connects to the history of Chester County. Lunch is included in the fee.

West Chester Twilight Tour

Enjoy dessert and beverage in The Lincoln Room, a tea room in one of West Chester's most historic buildings. Listen to remarks about Lincoln's rise to the presidency, the history of the structure and the area's Courthouse Block. The evening is capped by a short guided tour through the streets and alleys in "old town" West Chester.

Note: The Lincoln Room is located in the lower level of The Lincoln Building, regarded as the oldest commercial structure in downtown West Chester. There are 10 steps that lead to the tea room & shop, and may not be accessible to all individuals.
